Abstract

This research aims to demonstrate the role of e-learning in supporting self-directed learning and to reveal the extent of its contribution to meeting learners' educational needs and enhancing their independence in learning. It stems from the following question: How does e-learning contribute to supporting self-directed learning? What are the most prominent challenges and requirements for success in achieving this? This research is divided into three main sections. The first section is dedicated to the conceptual framework of e-learning and self-directed learning and its importance. The second section addresses the mechanisms by which e-learning contributes to supporting self-directed learning through content, digital resources, and the roles of the teacher and learner. The third section examines the advantages of e-learning, its challenges, and the requirements for its success. The research concluded that e-learning supports self-learning through flexibility, access to resources, consideration of individual differences, and development of independence, but its effectiveness remains linked to the integration of technical, human, educational, cultural, and economic requirements.
